Rheostat is a type of variable resistor used to control current in an electrical circuit by adjusting its resistance. A sliding rheostat is one in which the resistance can be adjusted by physically sliding a contact (wiper) along the resistive element, often a coil or a carbon strip.By changing the position of the slider, the effective length of the resistance wire in the circuit changes, thereby increasing or decreasing the current flowing through the circuit.
