The 4-gap Wheatstone Bridge consists of a rectangular or circular base with four brass gaps (slots) arranged to form the four arms of a Wheatstone bridge. Known resistances are placed in three gaps, while the unknown resistance is placed in the fourth gap. A galvanometer and a battery are connected across the appropriate terminals. When the bridge is balanced, no current flows through the galvanometer, allowing the unknown resistance to be calculated.
